I just woke up here in Tucson, having had a pretty amazing dream. In the dream, I was here in our new house, which has a large-ish, open dining room that looks out onto the back yard. As I walked out of the bedroom and into that room, I was pleasantly surprised to discover Rachel and my mom sitting at the dining table talking and drinking coffee. I said good morning to everyone and went into the kitchen to get myself some coffee. Rachel and my mom were just chatting and laughing. When I went back and sat down at the table with them, everything seemed pretty normal--except that I knew that my mom had died. I kept thinking: "This is really strange. I know she's not here, but here she is!" For some reason there was a very small diorama on the table--maybe 18" square--that I apparently had made. It was the kind of quaint little town you might see at a model railroading club. My mom looked at it admiringly and said "Did you make this?" I said yes and she said "Ken! It's beautiful!" She went to pick it up and as she did, we all noticed that there were two "big" pine trees that were pretty wobbly. I said, "I'm not done with it yet. And obviously I have to fix those trees." I reached for the diorama and she handed it to me, smiling. "I really like all the people walking down the street, going about their busy lives," she said. Taking the diorama, I looked at the underside and discovered that the two retaining clips holding the trees in place had come loose. Conveniently--if only real life were as convenient as dreams--I had a small plastic cylinder (almost like a clear plastic 35 mm film canister) handy and it fit right over each tree on the top part of the diorama and pressed down on its little base. This allowed me to hold the tree firmly to the mounting board while I snugged up the retaining clip on the tree's support rod that projected under the tree and through the mounting board. Something like this: image.png I fixed the first tree while Rachel and my mom watched. As I went to fix the second tree, I noticed that the little town also had two strange alien-tech looking towers, like something out of a sci-fi movie. They looked a little like this: image.png I thought, "Those are pretty weird and cool. I don't remember putting those in the town." And then I thought, "I wonder if they have anything to do with my mom being here?" As I finished tightening down the second tree, I glanced at my mom and said: "So are you a ghost?" She looked at me with an expression I've seen on her face a million times--a kind of resigned amusement--and said "That's what they tell me." Rachel said "How is it, Susie?" She said, "I'm here with you, aren't I?" There was a pause while we all exchanged glances, gradually realizing the hilarity of this answer. We laughed...and I woke up to the sound of the neighbors hollering about their dog. I jumped out of bed and went to tell Rachel about my dream. In the kitchen was a note next to the coffee pot that said "I'm in the Peace Garden." This is the name of the little wildflower garden we created a couple of weeks ago using seeds someone gave us after mom died. Mom is risen! She is risen indeed! Love to you all! ken. -- Ken S. I just woke up here in Tucson, having had a pretty amazing dream. In the dream, I was here in our new house, which has a large-ish, open dining room that looks out onto the back yard. As I walked out of the bedroom and into that room, I was pleasantly surprised to discover Rachel and my mom sitting at the dining table talking and drinking coffee. I said good morning to everyone and went into the kitchen to get myself some coffee. Rachel and my mom were just chatting and laughing. When I went back and sat down at the table with them, everything seemed pretty normal--except that I knew that my mom had died. I kept thinking: "This is really strange. I know she's not here, but here she is!" For some reason there was a very small diorama on the table--maybe 18" square--that I apparently had made. It was the kind of quaint little town you might see at a model railroading club. My mom looked at it admiringly and said "Did you make this?" I said yes and she said "Ken! It's beautiful!" She went to pick it up and as she did, we all noticed that there were two "big" pine trees that were pretty wobbly. I said, "I'm not done with it yet. And obviously I have to fix those trees." I reached for the diorama and she handed it to me, smiling. "I really like all the people walking down the street, going about their busy lives," she said. Taking the diorama, I looked at the underside and discovered that the two retaining clips holding the trees in place had come loose.
